Former light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kilograms), 38-year-old Alex Pereira, is currently at an important turning point in his UFC career. After an impressive four successful title fights in less than a year, he lost the belt to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 in March of this year. The judges' decision was unanimous, but it is still not certain whether there will be a rematch.
"Poatan" went on vacation after that match, but did not give any indication about the next step. In addition to resting, it seems that he has also put on some weight, which already hinted at his transition to the heavyweight division.
He recently published a video on social networks where the scale shows 112 kilograms, which caused numerous reactions.
Tom Aspinall and Pereira's new weight
The current UFC heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, commented on Pereira's figure on the scales and admitted that he takes the Brazilian star seriously.
"Pereira knows exactly what he's doing," Aspinall told UFC on Eurosport. "I find every fight interesting and I'm ready for every challenge. It doesn't take much for me to be interested. I can say that I'm the easiest person to arrange a fight with."
Although Tom has his own plans for the next matches, he wouldn't mind seeing Alex in the octagon once.
"If I were him, I'd go back to light heavyweight and look for a chance to get the title back. But I'm not him, so I don't know what he's thinking."
When it comes to his weight, Aspinall points out that Pereira and his team know very well how to attract attention and create media headlines.
"As far as I know, it's normal for him and some other light heavyweights to gain 108 to 113 kilograms during the off-season. Maybe he's just teasing us," concluded Tom.
