Oleksandr Usyk recently once again confirmed his status as the top heavyweight of today. He defeated Daniel Dubois in their rematch, this time by knockout in the fifth round, which showed his complete dominance. Usyk thus became a two-time absolute heavyweight champion, and many believe that he currently has no equal.
However, the public's attention was attracted by an unusual idea – a possible match between Usyk and the popular YouTube fighter Jake Paul. This interesting possibility was also commented on by Eddie Hearn, the well-known promoter of Anthony Joshua, who believes that such a match could be achievable and extremely profitable.
Hearn told "The Stomping Ground" of his conversation with Joshua after the Dubois fight: "Yeah, I talked to 'AJ.' I texted him and said, one, Usyk is amazing, and two, we really should have beaten Dubois, and he said, 'I know.'"
Jake Paul as an option for Joshua
The promoter also expressed his opinion on Joshua's next opponent: "I think at the moment, frankly, in this bizarre world where we just saw Jake Paul face Oleksandr Usyk, really... what's going on? The number one pound-for-pound fighter is facing Jake Paul."
He added: "But it sounds like AJ will fight Jake Paul, if he's serious and really wants the fight. It's easy to say 'he's got a weak chin and I'm going to knock him out,' but if he really means what he's saying, the fight will happen."
Hearn also stressed the financial potential of such a fight: "If they really want that fight, we can put it on and it would make the biggest money in the sport. Forget Canelo vs. Crawford, it's nowhere near 'AJ' vs. Jake Paul."
He ended by saying, “If you want the biggest numbers in sports, we will do it, but please, be careful what you wish for. This is not a game, this is physically dangerous. So if you want it, be prepared, but the fight will happen.”
