One of today's best boxers once again showed why many consider him a class above the rest. Oleksandr Usyk, the great Ukrainian, gave Daniel Dubois a real class of noble skill and in this way once again united all the titles in the heavyweight division. This 37-year-old proved once again that he deserves a place among the legends of this sport.
Entering the ring was a special moment – with the melody of "Ave Maria" in an emotional version by Tommee Profitt and Stanaj, he walked towards victory. And it arrived in the fifth round, when Dubois fell after a series of precise and powerful blows.
Faith as a driving force
After the fight, while the spotlight was on him and the audience was celebrating, Usik did not forget to thank what he believes in the most.
– "I believe in God and Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary is my heavenly mother, and the music I came out with motivates me" – said the modest champion.
The journalists asked him about his spirituality and how much his faith meant to him, and the experienced Ukrainian did not mince words:
– "This is my life. What we are doing now is only temporary. I do not know how long I will live, but now I am working for my future life, the one in heaven. I pray every day, every morning and every evening, whenever I can I go to church and fast. Jesus is my life, and God cleanses my soul."
This undefeated fighter also spoke openly about his own past and the struggle with himself:
– "I believed in God even before I started boxing, but I was an angry child. After I started boxing, my soul changed, I began to feel love. As a child, in difficult times, I thought that life was not fair to me, but now I know that life was fair to me and that God is merciful."
His words echoed through the Wembley hall, as powerfully as his punches. And what remains behind him – besides the titles – is an example of how sport, discipline and faith can shape a man.
